Big Market in Wallace Johnson Street is where you can find arts and crafts, artefacts and cultural items, and there are also farmers’ markets on Saturdays.

CULTURE

The Sierra Leone National Museum (Siaka Stevens Street, city centre, sierraleoneheritage.org/ museum) will give you some insight into the local heritage, and there is also the National Railway Museum (Cline Street, Clinetown, sierraleonerailwaymuseum.com)

TOP TIP

The Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary (tacugama.com) in the Western Area Peninsula Forest Reserve is home to confiscated, orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees. The primates are rehabilitated, with the aim to release them back into the wild. It offers an opportunity to view chimpanzees at close range.
