The Republic of Senegal is the westernmost country on the continent of Africa. It’s economical and political capital is Dakar.
Senegal’s neighbouring countries are Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south. It almost completely surrounds The Gambia.
With a population of almost 14 million people, over 40 percent live in rural areas and has a variety of ethnic groups. The Wolof speaking peoples are the largest ethnic group (43%).
